Week 28

I hope everyone is doing good! This week was much better than last week!

Last p day we went to the beach and saw so many cool sites. We saw castle ruins. A lighthouse. We explored this cool cave. We saw some kind of a tower with a cross on it. Scotland has so many of the most beautiful scenes on earth!

Elder Elton and I have been working hard non stop this past transfer and then some. I have never felt so tired in my life. Everyday we work and very seldom eat. It's just go go go. It's all good.

The weather here in Edinburgh also has improved. But it is still so inconsistent. It is either great where we can walk around in just a white shirt or it is freezing cold. No in between! When the sun is out all you want to do is find people all day! Where on the other hand if it is cold you want to make sure you are teaching inside haha!

This week was so good. We were able to meet with more people and we have set them baptismal dates!

Ting Ting - April 12th
Keather - April 12th
Omar - April 19th
Shu ting - April 19th

These are the four we are focusing on right now. Of the three girls; Keather was able to come to church. She is so smart. In our Chinese gospel principle class we teach she bore a powerful testimony about how she feels when she feels the Holy Ghost. So good!

Church yesterday was so good! It was also mothers day here in Scotland! So it was a good time to think of me mum back in America.

We are ripping it up here in Edinburgh! This transfer is very short one so move calls are set for the 15th of April. That is coming up quick. My mission seems to keep going faster and faster!

I love you all!

Week 27

This week, to be honest, was the hardest week in Edinburgh... ALL of our investigators are so busy with University and work no one wanted to listen to us. No one wanted to meet up. We fasted one day and still saw nothing. We are working so flipping hard, and it is great, but when you do not see any results from it, it can be hard to stay excited and optimistic.

Sunday we had no one come to church. It was my second time on my mission this has happened. But then later on Sunday, things started to turn around. Elder Elton and I fasted for just appointments in the evening. As the day went on and the sun came out and people started to relax. That is when we were finally able to set up some new appointments. We were also blessed to teach on the spot lessons which also leads to new investigators!

Sophie was confirmed a member on Sunday. That is always such a huge blessing!  The Lord is always waiting to shower us with blessings as long as we remain faithful, work hard and are obedient. I know that God looks over and loves every single one of us.

St. Patricks day was mental. Seriously people were out in the pubs and in the streets drinking at 10:00 in the morning! There were so many parties that day. So many drunks you cant even imagine. Elder Elton and I got these hats from a drunk guy. He was just giving them out at this pub. It actually will be a good memory. One to treasure. lol.

I am thankful to be a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love this work. I have also began to realize that it does nothing for me as a missionary to sit and think I have it rough. I am here trying to spread a very important message. A message of everlasting life and happiness.

This next week will be better!

Love you all!

Week 26

This week we saw so many miracles but also so many sad times!

To start off with the saddest story you guys will ever hear.... After winning 92 games of ping pong in a row I was finally beaten by my zone leader Elder Peacock.. Sad times. Other than that we had a great week!

Sophie entered the waters of baptism on Wednesday! It was such a great baptismal service. She brought so many friends to the service so it was a great experience. She sent us a huge long text after her baptisim saying how wonderful it was!

Friday Elder Elton and I went to a mission leadership training meeting. At the meeting I saw President Donaldson. He told me that Elder Labuschgne is coming back to the mission. He was my best mate from the MTC. He comes back tomorrow!

Saturday was move calls. I am staying in Edinburgh! Elder Elton is staying too. Which is so good! Later that day Mark, from Dundee, surprised me with a quick visit! He is such a good man. I love him so much! He is my Daddy….

Sunday I was able to attend the best Stake Conference ever! The meeting was so spiritual. All of the speakers were so awesome...!

Week 25

What a good week it was for me and Elder Elton!

Last P day we went to the beach again! This time we went with all the missionaries. We had fun playing frisbee. It was so fun!

Wednesday was also an eventful day. Three of our investigators attended a baptism. They all really enjoyed it and are loving to learn more about the gospel.

Thursday was another good day. We went to Brother Thompson's as usual. I mowed his lawn again. We also had a good lunch appointment with some of our Investigators. Remember Mae Williamson? She was one of our baptisms in Dundee. We were able to visit with her here in Edinburgh. She had to come for a interview at the University. We were blessed to be able to see her for just a bit. She is doing so good! We all went out to dinner. It was so good to see her again and catch up with her.

Friday was a great day. One of Elder Elton's friends from Glasgow who is Chinese came to Edinburgh to help us teach one of our Chinese investigators. Then she ended up also helping us teach 4 of our new investigator friends. After we ended our teaching, they all left with baptismal dates! It was such a good day! One more bit of news from this day. Elder Tullis, one of our AP's, who is ranked 16th in tennis in the nation challenged me to a game of ping pong... You don't need to ask....  Your Elder took care of business. Tullis went down 21-7.

Saturday! Another great day. In the morning we met Sophie at the church. She was there for her baptismal interview for this Wednesday! We also had to practice singing a song with all of the other missionaries from our zone. We are singing for stake conference which will be held this next week. Sophie will be baptized on March 8th She asked me if I would baptize her. What a great blessing.

Sunday we had 3 of our investigators at church. Then we were able to watch a church broadcast for all of Northern Europe! It was very spiritual and uplifting We then went on exchanges. I teamed up with Elder Baklan. Elder Baklan is from Ukraine! It was such good weather! In fact the weather here is staring to change. It was also really nice on Tuesday and Wednesday of this past week. The sun was out almost all day. It was so nice.

I love my mission! It has helped me change and grow in so many ways. I am absolutely loving every second! I would like to end this letter with a scripture passage. I have given it much thought in my scripture studies.

James 1:22-24
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a glass.
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

Ponder on this passage. I love you all and hope you all have a good coming week.

Love Elder Gowans
